Randy and Barbara’s Driveway

Randy and Barbara have a lovely home in Fox Point. Cool street signs by the way. It is a lovely burb of Milwaukee very close to the lake. Unbeknownst to them when they bought the house, there is a train track acoss the street from them. We were able to keep contact with the rails. We spent about ten days in the driveway (they are saints) during that time they showed us galleries and great friends of theirs, fabulous houses along the lake, Randys’ incredible sound studio (showing Barbara’s decorating tastes, and they were yummy) also a store time forgot but they didn’t. The steaks in the supper club were surpassed in size by their quality. Yummy, want another now.  Chuck came into town !!!! great fun to have Chuck come in. He lives 30 minutes from us at home but we have to go cross country to get together !    We went to a flea market, 500 vendors. Lots to see had fun but prices are similar to home, I blame the internet.

Clop, Clop, Clop

After a nice quiet sleep, other than the train in the distance. (We will no longer be able to sleep with out that lonesome whistle) WE awoke to; Clop Clop Clop Clop Clop….well you get the idea. Opening the curtain we see harness racers practicing on the track going around us. Oh did I mention we are the only ones in the infield? We drove into town and met up again to tour the sights. It is a very cool location with lots to see and we saw it. When it was time to go we drove out to a revamped brewer that was now an art gallery. The wife half of the owners was gregarious and friendly and started showing us the boiler room and her work room and the old caverns. It was quite a tour. We had many common interests shared between the five of us. Jodee plans to send her a French Whore Tiara. We then drove to Milwaukee. It took a bit but was uneventful.

OK Fine it has been a long time

mohopictures1-031.jpgmohopictures1-032.jpgmohopictures1-027.jpgSince we last posted a lot has happened. We found more Cabella’s stores(all of which were big and totally cool). When finally released from the purgatory that is Nebraska, we were delighted to find Iowa. This is certainly where Dick and Jane went to visit their relatives in the country. I recognize the barns….and isn’t that Fluff and Spot frolicking in the pasture??? Anyway, we drove a lot of miles with greenery everywhere. Oh yes, lot’s of cool barns. When we stopped for the evening , we found ourselves in Altoona. Seriously, try saying it…good times.

THE PHONE RANG! A shot rang out ! A woman screamed!!   OK fine only the phone rang. Randy and Barbara were driving toward us from Milwaukee to meet in Cascade, Iowa. Cascade it turns out is kind of small. We parked at their park and got the dogs out to walk. I think half the town took a look at us wondering who we were why we were there and what were the little white things we had on strings…..(the westies). I spoke to the other half of the town; both of them. Very nice folks involved in the world comerce of the internet.(medical advice for managed care). Small world, India?, no, Cascade.  So we met Randy and Barbara at the park and visited a bit. We collectively decided A. Jodee would ride with Barbara in the car 2. Randy would ride with me in the MoHo with the Westies. Jodee was nice enough to comment we looked like a very nice gay couple with our dogs….not that there is anything wrong with that……….    We all drove to Mineral Point. It is a very cute little town with artists and such. Randy and Barbara had a reservation at a very cute hotel revamped from a brewery in a totally cool old brick building. We had dinner across the street then a couple bottles of wine from the MoHo’s wine cellar. Very nice. The lady running the hotel said that a friend of hers had stayed in her motorhome at the fairgrounds.  Sooooo of we went.actually it was very close by. The hand lettered sign read “fill out envelope, enclose ten dollars, deposit in strongbox.” Well there were no envelopes so I stuffed a ten in the box and we followed the road. The road led to the infield of the race track. We plugged the MoHo into the electrical box flipped the proper braker. Whirrrrrrrrr goes the air conditioner and we are in buisness. night night.

Wires hanging down no headlights

I had taped the ends of the wires so I could attach them up under the frame and stop further damage without starting a fire. In the morning I figured it would be no big deal to match ripped wires together and reattach…..wrong. The plastic fittings were ripped from the back of the headlighs and gone. What the heck, we don’t need no stinking headlights!!! (said in mexican bandito voice) So I told MoHo Mama, “Daylight driving only babe”. And we were off….. It was an uneventful day of trying to log a bunch of miles. We signed in at an RV park just west of Cheyene Wyoming. It had a little BBQ trailer in the entrance. Guess what we had for dinner?!? Also apple pie. A low key evening and to bed. Next morning, that is this morning btw, Jodee wanted to see Cheyene. so we drove in and parked on the main drag and walked to see the sights. It is a cute town with many old buildings and friendly people. I walked back to the MoHo to put the dogs in and a fellow in county workman’s uniform asks, “is this your camper?”  I thought oh no we weren’t supposed to park on main street. He says, well I am really sorry but I smashed your mirror with mine. OH…is that all?!?!?  He was very nice and bought a new one and installed it!!!   Did I mention the old one was cracked? I didn’t mention it to him.  Back on the road again we went looking for Nebraska, it wasn’t hard to find and that is where we are now. There was a sign proclaiming “FLEA MARKET”  moth to a candle for Jodee so we got off Highway80 in Potter Nebraska. It is a small town. How small is it !??!   The road in the main block of town is paved, the rest is dirt. Cute little place but it couldn’t hold us the highway was calling it’s siren song. Next stop Cabella’s flagship store. It is huge. A diorama at one end of this log lodge that all of Potter would fit into, had close to a hundred taxidermied animals. Then there was the enormous fish tanks with live fishies in them. Very cool place. We came, we saw, we bought.  Cruising on the highway again a couple hours later there is an electonic billboard that tells us to watch for flash floods. Hmmmmmm it is blue skies. We shall see what tomorrow brings.

MoHo Blows

mohopictures1-024.jpgmohopictures1-025.jpgNo, not what you are thinking….. not That either!   But I am getting ahead of myself.  We drove into Utah and after filling out the requisite forms stating that I really did not want anymore wives. (Got the best why take more??) We drove through some rather barren country side , then it turned white, the  country side that is. The salt flat  stretches on for a very very very long ways. Oh  did I mention that it is ginormous?  After that we started to climb the Rockies. It was slow going but doable just sit there and steer.  Very pretty. Then it was downhill, a gradual downhill that allowed the Beige Turd to roll right along. Many interesting rock formations out the windows. The highways out here are all being worked on. They like to close down 10 or 12 miles of highway to 1 lane each way. This makes truckers very unhappy when they get stuck behind us and can’t pass for many miles. We were in such a stretch on a downhill run when….. POW!!! BAM!!! Holy Crap Batman, what in the blazes was THAT !?!? The left front tire had blown out. When I say blew out perhaps I should say, exploded. Oh did I mention the narrow lane with huge orange cones and the cross wind? Anyway we got over to the side of the road and called triple A after realising we had no jack. We got back underway and found the next town had A. a tire place with seven, yes count them seven, new tires for us.

2.an RV park next door.

C.possibly most importantly; a Mexican restraunt on the other next door. A trifecta of sorts.

After a very good dinner and a pitcher of margaritas to bolster our spirits. Oh, and a couple shots to celebrate not rolling the MoHo on the interstate, we retired to the RV Park to watch TV, new fishing videos, and oh yes sleep. BTW, did I mention that the blowout ripped all the wiring to the headlights out?

MoHo heads out for M’Waaaaakie

We determined to leave our house on Saturday morning……So in typical fashion we actually left Sunday afternoon.  Since it was a late start we decided to stay at the Buttercup RV park and Spa. (Famous home of the “Buttercup Biker Boys”) This is a fabulous RV park with complimentary wine and potato salad; not to mention the fabulous chocolate cake. Thanks to the staff and owners for taking such good care of us!! Next morning we started out after a stop at Kiene’s fly shop to acquire a fishing license for Jodee. We got her a fishing vest and fishing videos…. but who would guess that a big time fly shop doesn’t carry fishing lincenses?!?!?    But we persevered and started climbing the Sierras over hiway 80. As we crept along at times doing only 30mph I would console myself with the idea that settlers in covered wagons would have been amazed at our blindingly fast pace! Especially uphill!  We arrived in Truckee and disembarked for a stroll in town and a license at the Truckee Fly Outfitters, very nice people. After a very relaxing walk in the quaint town we headed north away from 80 to “dry camp” in a Forest service campground. Lovely surroundings and rainbow trout to dry flies.

We left California with it’s forests and water and ……

Entered Nevada. I think the tourist board should consider the slogan “Welcome to Nevada; it’s mostly flat” . I don’t want to insult any Nevada lovers but, wow is it ever barren. Currently after 350 miles logged today we are at the RV Oasis in the Desert. Actually it is a lovely RV Park with WiFi wooohoooo and cable and water ect.

A woman who knows the value of “Mo Ho”

lilacfarm.jpghulda.jpgThis is Hulda Klager, founder of the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens in Woodland Washington. As her gardens grew, so did her need for additional gardening equipment. As you can see here, one hoe was not enough. She needed “Mo Ho.”

And THIS is Aunt Sallie.aunt-sallie.jpg In her salsa garden in Sacramento. She’s awesome. We stopped by on our way out of Sacramento for any sage advice for the trip. “Have a great time” and so we willaunt-sal-and-jode.jpg
